Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker, is growing rapidly. Apart from releasing brand new sets of smartphones, it already has made its presence felt in the wearable space with the Mi Band worth $13. The company has also invested in Misfit. But now, it looks like it’s just the beginning for Xiaomi in the wearables tech. Li Ning, the Chinese sportswear brand, announced a few days back that it will launch smart running shoes this year that will work with a Xiaomi app and Xiaomi tech. This step is a move forward for the company to revive its fading fortunes.
Smart Running Shoes
The line of smart running shoes from Li Ning will have smart chips which will be integrated in the soles. Users who wear the shoes will be able to evaluate their running form and keep track of the progress they make while running. The Xiaomi app will help the user to monitor their running goals. It is not yet known whether there will be any integration of the smart running shoes with the Mi Band fitness tracker.
In a statement, as reported by Reuters, executives of Li Ning said “We have chosen to collaborate with the Mi band because of Huami Technology’s strength in “smart” wearable products. We hope to use this opportunity to provide professional “smart” running shoes to running enthusiasts in China at an affordable price.”
So, runners can expect that they can put their smart running shoes and track their goals without spending too much. The pricing is yet to be known.

Availability of the Shoes
The smart running shoes from Li Ning will be available to the customers in the US. However, the date os its availability is still unknown. It will be available with Way of Wade sneakers. Back in 2006, Apple and Nike had put iPod-friendly sensor in shoes. miCoach Speed Cell from Adidas tracks distance, speed and a range of other activities.
Meanwhile, more leaks have been made regarding an upcoming smartwatch from Xiaomi. We can expect a round watch-face with features like pulse wave velocity identification and more. The wearable section of Xiaomi goes on expanding, the running shoes being the latest addition.
