Autonomous cars have turned out to be a big thing in this year’s International CES. Different car manufacturers have introduced the self-driving cars, one of them being Audi. While this is not much of a surprise, the auto manufacturer stunned the attendees of the event by bringing in a secret agent-style change. They unveiled a smartwatch which can help users to control a car.
If you want to know more about this smartwatch, you can check out this post.
A board member of Audi, Prof. Ulich Hackenberg, demonstrated the use of LG smartwatch for the car at the press conference. He used the smartwatch to bring a self-driving car on the stage. Audi teamed up with LG to provide their consumers an awesome experience. The design of this device is completely different than the other smartwatches LG has designed. The three button design was the highlight of the watch.
How Does it Work with the Car?
The smartwatch works with the A7 prototype of Audi and lets the user interact with the car. As seen in the presentation at CES, one of the functions of the wearable will be to unlock the car. It is not yet clear whether the communication between the car and the smartwatch will include features like controlling the car’s temperature, windows, engine and similar other things.
The LG smartwatch will work even if it runs outs of battery and you won’t have to worry about getting locked inside the car. This is because the device uses near field communication (NFC). Audi is calling the device as a kind of “mobile key”. However, there aren’t many details on what will be the functions of the device or the date of its availability.
Android Central contacted LG and confirmed that the smartwatch has been made especially for Audi and it runs a modified version of Android Wear. Rumors that LG could bring back webOS again are not going to be true.
It can be hoped that driving Audi cars will become a more advanced experience with the LG smartwatch for the users.
Are you going to try the autonomous cars when they will be available in the future? Which innovative product at the CES did you like till now? We would love to hear from you.
