Instagram, the photo sharing app which was acquired by Facebook in 2012, for $1 billion, has got past Twitter in terms of the number of monthly users. Instagram announced that they have reached 300 million monthly active users who capture, edit and share photos of food, fashion and travel. The user base has grown by third in the last nine months. Twitter had 284 million monthly active users in October.
How does this growth have an effect on the market? Check out this post to know more.
Growth in Mobile Advertising Market
According to eMarketer, the mobile advertising market is expected to move past $40 billion this year. The UK, the US and China will represent around 70 percent of the market. Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst at eMarketer said that marketers, especially brand advertisers are finding the 300 million monthly user-base of Instagram really attractive. The rapid growth of the audience has made it even more appealing.
Instagram Working To Improve the User Experience
Instagran’s Chief Executive and Co-founder Kevin Systrom said that the company is working to better the experience of the users by making it easier for accounts to be discovered, putting “verified badges” on the accounts of celebrity users, brands and athletes and improving the search.
He said that “over the past four years, what began as two friends with a dream has grown into a global community that shares more than 70m photos and videos each day. Instagram is home to creativity in all of its forms, a place where you can find everything from images of the Nile River to the newest look from Herschel Supply to a peek inside the mind of Taylor Swift.”
User-base of Instagram
Around 70 percent of the users of Instagram are based outside the US, which has increased by 5 percent since March 2014. The app usage continues to increase internationally. In March, 20 billion photos were shared using this app. This has now increased to 30 billion.
The fashion world, where users are attracted to stylish pictures is especially in love with Instagram. It is also really popular among teenagers, a user-base which analysts thought, were moving away from Facebook.
Even though, Instagram faces stiff challenge from other apps, it will still have its fair share of user-base and it can be hoped that it will continue to grow in the coming years.
