The Changes

  • Nest Protect

The Nest Protect, which is a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, has come up with a second version. It is the first alarm which provides a custom, Split-Spectrum Sensor. This sensor detects different types of fires with the use of two wavelengths of light. You can now silence the Nest Protect alarm from your smartphone.

  • Nest Cam

The Nest Cam has also undergone changes. The new device has a full high-definition (1080p) video quality, better night vision and alerts and a flexible stand. The Nest Cam can now keep an eye on what people care about, irrespective of their location. Next Cam will be available in Europe from next month.

  • Nest Thermostat

The Nest Thermostat can now notify users when temperatures drop. This will help them avoid frozen pipes and add new integrations with other products from Nest.

  • Nest App 5.0

All three Nest products can be connected with the Nest 5.0 app, across different platforms. This will be possible for the first time and consumers will find it easy to control and access other Nest products.

Tony Fadell, the Nest CEO said “At Nest, we always wanted to build more than a thermostat. Our vision was to create a thoughtful home – a home that takes care of itself and the people in it. Five years later, all the pieces are in place. We’ve built a portfolio of best-in-class products that each stand on their own while doing more together. More than 9,000 developer partners are using the Works with Nest developer program to help seamlessly integrate everything from washers and dryers to cars with our thermostat, smoke alarm and camera. And we’re working with energy and insurance partners to bring more value to our shared customers. Nest products are used in 190+ countries, across multiple platforms, and available wherever people shop. The result? Energy saved, lives spared, and countless memories recorded and shared.”

This change will make adoption of other interconnected devices more common.
