Luna Brings Internet of Things to Your Bedroom

Luna Brings Internet of Things to Your Bedroom

When we talk about wearables, we generally think of fitness bands. If you are not much of a fitness freak, you might still want something which can track your sleeping patterns and inform you if you did not get good rest at night. However, if you get irritated every time you have to put these bands on your wrist, you need something different. Luna is a smart mattress which can reduce you the pain of wearing any device and help you sleep like a baby. What’s this mattress all about? How does it work? You can get all your answers in this post.

Luna- Smart Mattress Tracking your Sleep

Luna is a Wi-Fi smart mattress pad which is washable and heats your bed to your desired temperature. It syncs with other smart devices in your home to create a smart home for you. It can help shut down the house for the night when you get into bed.

Matteo Franceschetti, co-founder of Luna said “Everything started because I was having problems [getting] to sleep.”

Functions of Luna

The primary function of Luna is that it serves as a heating pad. The mattress has a dual-zone. This means that if you like to sleep in a hot environment, you can raise the temperature of your side up to 83 percent. Your partner can stay 10 degrees cooler on the other side. With time, the smart mattress learns your preferences and it can self-sustain at that temperature. Massimo Andreasi Bassi, the other partner said “It is off 95 per cent of the time.” This means only a few bursts of heat will be delivered throughout the night to keep your toes and lower back warm.

Other functions include sleep tracking. This is done using snoring-sensitive microphone, accelerometers and sensors that can measure heart rate and frequency. Luna has teamed up with Beep, Lockitron, Nest and Emberlight. This means when you get into bed, the mattress will sync with your lights, thermostat and door locks to make the house secure and ready for the night.

Plans are on to make more integration in the future. Luna might be used more for our health and home. The smart mattress pad will be available at a starting price of $235 .

So are you going to get this smart mattress? What other smart devices have you used? We would love to hear your thoughts.
