Your kitchen appliances work as you operate them. A blender or a slow cooker might do their job in cooking your meals. However, they cannot learn what your preferences are or suggest you about any recipe. We can expect that in the long run the Internet of Things will make all this possible, but at present, Orange Chef, manufacturers of different hardware and software solutions related to health and nutrition, developed a new device which will make the kitchen much smarter. The device is called Countertop and it makes all your kitchen appliances smart.
What can the Countertop Do?
The Countertop syncs with your current appliances and makes them smart. Slow cookers from Crock-Pot and Vitamix works with this device with the help of one-step install adapters. Other platforms like Apple Health, fitness trackers like Jawbone UP and more, can also be used with Countertop app.
The device works round the clock for you and your eating habits will change for the better. For example, if you sync it with a fitness tracker, Countertop will know when you get back from a run and will suggest food items, based on your lifestyle habits like movement and sleeping patterns. By working with a relevant iOS app, you will get recipes of smoothies along with the steps to make one.
You can track your food intake. As you prepare the food using Countertop, it logs the exact information about what you are eating. It will give you an idea how food is affecting your health.

How Does it Work?
There is an NFC reader at the base of the Countertop for adapters. It comes with load sensors which measures the ingredients. The device notices if you often substitute any food item for any other item in certain recipes. It also understands what ingredients you prefer and keep in the house generally. Ultimately, the device creates the algorithm which helps in making the recipe suggestions more apt.
The Countertop base has BLE and has location aware technology. The feedback is obtained through LED. It is water resistant and the battery life lasts for one year. The Countertop app is compatible with iOS 8 or above. When you pre-order the device, you can also order for accessories which include Vitamix NFC adapter ring, customizable tops and Crock-Pot slow cooker NFC adapter.
The Countertop base is available at a reduced price of $99.95 instead of $199.95. If you want to order the Vitamix adapter, you have to pay only $9.95 and the Crock-Pot adapter comes at a price of $4.95. Shipping will start in fall 2015.
