You can expect to see a new generation of super-thin TVs after the launch of LG’s latest OLED TV. In a media event in Korea, LG Display unveiled a super thin and light prototype of OLED display. The display of the panel’s news was first reported by the Yonhap News Agency. The prototype of the TV has only been unveiled. This means that the actual TV could still be far away. The prototype that was displayed at the event could surely pave the way for other extremely thin OLED TVs.
Stick it to a Wall
The new OLED panel displayed by LG measures 55 inches diagonally. It is only 0.97mm i.e. 0.04 inches thick. Its weight is only 4.2 pounds. What’s best is that you won’t require any wall mount or any place to set it up. You can just stick it to a wall. This is possible with the presence of a magnetic mat. It almost looks like wallpaper. With the design, there is not much to be added. For the TV functions, you would probably require a breakout box. However, the OLED prototype gives the possibility that large-screen sets could blend with the living room’s décor easily.

Large OLED Displays
LG Display might not be releasing this super thin TV which you can stick to a wall, in the immediate future, but the company is serious about large OLED panels. These panels are steadily entering into the mainstream, which is dominated by LED panels.
Yeo Sang-deog, the head of LG Display’s OLED division said, the company has plans to increase the production of OLED displays in the third quarter of 2015. On the whole, LG Display plans to sell 600,000 OLED displays this year and 1.5 million units, the next year.
At the event, Sang-deog told reporters “We should be able to supply a satisfactory volume to our clients from July or August, which means we’re hoping to buckle down production as well as promotion from the third quarter.”
At this year’s CES that was held in January, LG had displayed 7 new OLED TV sets, which ranged from screen size of 55 inch to 77 inch. In this event in Korea, LG has announced that it will be releasing a super large OLED TV of 99 inch. However, it won’t be as thin as the prototype that was shown at the event.
