Dolfi- World’s Smallest Ultrasonic Washing Machine

Dolfi- World’s Smallest Ultrasonic Washing Machine

While on a vacation, it can be a very tiring job to hand-wash your clothes or go in search of a laundromat. However, this tiring job can be done in a jiffy, thanks to a portable device, which can change your sink into a virtual washing machine.  The device is called Dolfi and it can clean clothes passively using ultrasonic vibrations. While it cleans your clothes, you can relax and enjoy your vacation. It has been developed by MPI Ultrasonics, a Swiss engineering lab. Let us have a look at this post to know more about this device.

Dolfi- Ultrasonic Technology in Use

Dolfi, unlike conventional washing machines, does not cause the clothes to get ruined after continual wash. It is much gentler on the garments and uses ultrasonic technology with which the clothes can be cleaned within 30 minutes. You can even wash cashmere using this device. The Indiegogo campaign which was started in January to raise funds was a huge success.

The Dolfi looks like a small plastic soap bar. Using this device doesn’t mean you won’t require any detergent. The cleaning power of the device comes from an ultrasonic transducer which is integrated with the device. This transducer creates vibrations in a full sink of water. These vibrations or micro-jets create bubbles which clean the garments without agitating them, but the force is such that all the grime and dirt is cleaned off by the detergent. You just then need to rinse and hang the clothes and you are done. Delicates can be easily cleaned with the Dolfi, without damaging them. All you need to do is plug the device into a power outlet and place it into a sink full of warm water and detergent.

Large Scale use of the Technology

This technology is used in a large scale in chemistry laboratories using a process which is called sonication. According to the Telegraph, the device uses 80 percent less energy than other similar appliances. A high voltage is required for the transducer to work and it cannot be powered by battery. But the device is portable and you can carry it with you on your vacations and remain tension-free about cleaning your clothes.

After successful funding, it is expected that the shipping of Dolfi will start in August.

Do you think Dolfi will a useful device? Will you be buying it? We would love to hear your thoughts.
